Getting Up to Speed
My first full month in office and I am so grateful for all that I’m learning (even if it feels like I’m drinking from a firehose :) ).
On May 6th, I attended the Osmundsen Traffic Calming Committee Meeting, where one of our city engineers walked through different options for mitigating speeding concerns. These options will be put forward to residents to provide feedback, which is the best way to serve our community and get fully inclusive feedback! I will be sharing information once that survey comes closer to publishing.
On the 7th, I listened to a fantastic update on our community’s growth and economic development, hosted by the Fitchburg Chamber of commerce. Our Development team highlighted all the great progress realized and upcoming opportunities available to the city. Thanks to our staff who does great work in making sure Fitchburg stays top of mind for businesses and developers aligned to our values in Dane County!
On the 8th, I was honored to help Jim Wheeler, my fellow District 4 Alder, welcome quicksave games to our community. This is the owners’ first entrepreneurial adventure and we’re so honored to have them call Fitchburg home. Feel free to check them out! https://www.facebook.com/p/Quicksave-Games-100094614391738/
On the 9th, I participated in an internal workshop that focused on our strategic plan as a city, which involved elected officials and staff and was facilitated by some great outside experts. One thing is clear- we’re all aligned and passionate about driving for the best outcomes for this city and all its citizens.
The following week, we reviewed important work at our bi-weekly council meeting. The day after, I met with the Mayor to discuss our Capitol improvement plan and get and overview of this important work and understand all the pieces that come together to determine our budget and priorities. I look forward to ensuring the priorities of this district are incorporated into this plan.
In the middle of the week, I got to visit the fantastic students at Badger Ridge Middle School and discuss their future goals and lead a strengths mapping exercise. I finished the week with an overview of the public works department, which was so helpful to understand. We have a great team of engineers and leaders dedicated to streets, storm water management, utilities, and all other municipal needs. I am so grateful to the team for taking time out of their busy days to provide an overview and a guide to their department.
Lastly, be on the lookout for a FACTv interview of “Get to Know Your Alder” with yours truly.
