First Week as Alder

My first week as alder was quite the busy week!

On Sunday, I had the pleasure of attending the Pancake Breakfast at the Fitchburg Senior Center. My kiddos made us order an extra plate because the food was so delicious. A HUGE thank you to the volunteers and Friends of the Senior Center. To learn more about the senior center and their work, check out their website here—-> https://www.fscfriends.org/

On Monday, I joined a group of neighbors to discuss the Greenfield Neighborhood plan and got some great insight into the challenges and opportunities shared by those in attendance. A huge thanks to those in the neighborhood who took time out of their evening to share with the committee. You can find the greenfield neighborhood plan here —-> https://fitchburgwi.gov/2894/Greenfield-Neighborhood-Plan

On Tuesday, I was sworn it at my first common council meeting! It was so fantastic to serve next to my incredibly thoughtful and passionate peers and mayor. I was a super hero when I told my 3 year old the following morning that mommy voted to help the fire department buy a new firetruck! Don’t worry- it’s in the classic Fitchburg green shade :)

On Wednesday, I attended both a personnel committee meeting and the committee of the whole meeting. At personnel, we were able to recommend items for council vote that facilitate keeping talent in our city and promoting from within whenever possible! The best recommendation we plan to put to council is a parental leave policy for our first responders! Later at the committee of the whole meeting, we discussed the community feedback provided to the potential referendum. There was great discussion around timing, amounts, and the needs of the community at large.

I rounded out my week on Friday with a celebration of Arbor Day. A group of young nature lovers from woods hollow (including my own little guy) joined myself, the mayor, and the tree advisory committee to plant a tree at city hall. The kids were all to eager to get their hands in the dirt as they reminded us all who we plant trees for :) A huge thank you to Sue Fieber, Brende Hofer, Ann Sawyer, Terrell Brock, Craig Rapp, Anna Healy, and Craig Rapp- members of the amazing tree advisory group.

While a whirlwind of 6 activities in 6 days, I couldn’t be more proud to kickoff my first week as alder with such a variety and critical mix of community engagement.
