A busy Fitchburg Summer
These past 6 weeks have been full of city work, plus a little R&R as we try to take time to enjoy the summer.
In June, we were busy planning the annual capital improvement budget, which had input from all department heads. It was great to hear each department present their top priorities and rationale for their respective items. One of the items was the feasibility study for our upcoming teen center, which was made clear as a worthwhile investment during the Teen Center public workshop. I had the pleasure of chatting with 3 teens from Verona and Madison schools who have been working as interns on the project, reminding me once again that our students and future is bright!
Construction began on Osmundsen road as well as Richardson, finishing up in other parts of the city. My 3 year old had a fantastic time monitoring the crew as they worked right outside our front yard. For more information about the ongoing re-surfacing projects, check out the road construction page here.
To ring in July, I attended the Stoner Prairie neighborhood 4th of July celebration, which was led by our Fitchburg Fire Department. A HUGE thank you to the Fire Department, who make the rounds on the 4th, bringing excitement to kids all around Fitchburg. I hope you all had a great 4th as well!
I had the great opportunity to ride-along with one of our Fitchburg Officers, Officer Gonzales. He and his colleagues were fantastic at answering all of my questions as he explained how he serves the community, what his daily shifts are like, and how the needs of the community vary. I found myself very proud of the relationships and comportment of our police officers, and the flexibility with which they were able to change situations and bring the right level of urgency, sensitivity, and professionalism to the scenario at hand.
For those of you who live nearby, Don’t forget to fill out the Greenfield neighborhood survey, which is open now and can be accessed here. You can also check out the project page. I appreciate all those in the community who have reached out to discuss the project, both in support and in disagreement. Your opinions are important to me and I appreciate the time taken to share them.
