City Update: Engaging with Our Community and Moving Forward
Hey there, Fitchburg neighbors!
These past couple of months have been a whirlwind of activity for our city. While we've all been trying to soak up the last bits of summer, there's been no shortage of important work happening in Fitchburg. Let me catch you up on some of the key events and initiatives that have been shaping our community.
Connecting with Our Seniors
We kicked off August with a "Meet your Alder" interview at the Senior Center on the 7th. I always love these chats – they're a golden opportunity to hear directly from our wise elders about what matters most to them. Their insights are invaluable in guiding our city's direction.
Strengthening Community Bonds
On August 14th, our fantastic Fitchburg Police Department hosted the annual Community Night Out. If you made it out, you know it was a blast! These events are so crucial for building those connections between residents and our local law enforcement. It's all about creating a safer, more united Fitchburg.
Balancing Growth and Tradition
The Agriculture and Rural Affairs committee got together on August 20th to fine-tune our rural zoning requirements. It's a delicate dance, folks – we're working hard to welcome growth while preserving the rural charm that makes Fitchburg special.
A Pivotal Moment for Fitchburg's Future
Now, here's something big: At the City Council Meeting on August 27th, we approved the wording for a crucial referendum that you'll see on the November ballot. This is a game-changer, potentially increasing our property tax levy to fund some critical needs:
Boosting our police force with 5 new positions
Adding 6 firefighters to keep us all safer
Bringing on 3 key non-public safety roles
Keeping our Police Department facilities running smoothly
Improving our transit systems
And addressing other city needs, including better pay for our part-time firefighters
I can't stress enough how important this vote is for our city's future. Please, take a moment to read up on the details at our official City of Fitchburg Referendum page. Your informed vote will shape Fitchburg for years to come!
Standing Up for Fair Housing
On August 28th, we held a listening session about landlord issues at a local mobile home park. These conversations aren't always easy, but they're essential to ensure everyone in Fitchburg has a safe, fair place to call home.
Let's keep making Fitchburg fantastic, together!
