Autumn in Fitchburg: A Cleaner, Greener Community

Hey there, Fitchburg friends!

As the leaves start to turn and we embrace the crisp autumn air, I've got some important updates to share with you all. From city services to tree health and a crucial referendum, a lot is going on in our bustling community!

Keeping Fitchburg Clean and Green

Some exciting news on the city services front: On September 10th, we renewed our contract with Pelliteri for waste and recycling management. And here's a little bonus – we've added an extra Fall leaf pickup this year. I know many of you will appreciate that now that Fall is here!

Protecting Our Leafy Friends

On September 12th, we put in for some grants to fight the pesky Emerald Ash Borer and keep our trees healthy. Our trees aren't just pretty – they're vital to the health and beauty of our city.

A Crucial Decision for Our Community's Future

Now, let's talk about something really important – the upcoming referendum. As you may have heard, Fitchburg is growing, and so are our community's needs. That's why on August 27th, the City Council voted to place a referendum question on the November 5th, 2024 ballot.

Here's the scoop: We're asking you, our residents, whether you support an increase in the property tax levy. I know, I know – tax increases aren't anyone's favorite topic. But hear me out on what this could mean for Fitchburg:

  • Boosting our safety: We're looking at adding 5 police positions and 6 firefighters to keep our community safe as we grow.

  • Improving city operations: 3 new non-public safety positions to help things run smoothly.

  • Keeping our police facilities in top shape.

  • Enhancing our transit and paratransit systems.

  • Other crucial operating costs, including better wages for our hardworking part-time firefighters.

This is a big decision, and I want to ensure everyone is fully informed. Please take some time to think it over, discuss it with your neighbors, and feel free to reach out with any questions. We will also hold an Information Session on Monday, October 21st, at 6:00 PM

As always, I'm here to keep you in the loop and involved in Fitchburg's journey. Do you have questions, or concerns, or just want to chat about our city? Don't hesitate to reach out. Let's keep making Fitchburg a fantastic place to live, work, and play!

Stay awesome, Fitchburg!
