Moving Forward Together: Fitchburg’s Path Ahead
Hey Fitchburg friends!
As the autumn leaves settle and our community processes the recent election results, I want to take a moment to connect with you all about where we stand and where we're headed.
Understanding the Referendum Results
First, let's address the referendum results. As many of you know, the proposal to increase our property tax levy did not pass. This was a decision that would have funded several critical needs in our growing community, including additional police and fire personnel, improvements to our transit system, and enhanced city operations.
While this wasn't the outcome many community leaders hoped for, we respect the voice of our voters. Your message has been heard loud and clear – we need to look for creative solutions and carefully evaluate our priorities moving forward. In the coming months, the City Council and staff will be working diligently to:
Reassess our budget priorities
Explore alternative solutions
Maintain essential services within our current means, re-evaluating service levels if needed
Look for innovative ways to meet our community's growing needs
We'll continue working hard to ensure Fitchburg remains a safe and vibrant community as we face these financial constraints.
Standing United as a Community
Elections and referendums often highlight our different perspectives on important issues. But now is the time to refocus on what unites us: our shared love for this community and our commitment to making it an even better place to live, work, and play.
There was a recent incident of distributed hate speech that occurred in one of our District 4 neighborhoods (for more info, watch the Channel 3 news coverage here). If you witness or experience any concerning behavior or hate speech during this transition period, please report it immediately to our Police Department at (608) 270-4300. Fitchburg is committed to being a welcoming community for everyone.
Local Business Celebrates Expansion
This month, we got to celebrate an amazing Fitchburg business that brings joy to so many! Congratulations Rolling Pin Bake Shop on the over 20 years of business and your continued success. It's small businesses like you that bring a bright spot to our community!
