March Updates: What’s Happening in Our Community

Hey Fitchburg neighbors!

Spring is in the air, and there’s a lot going on in our city! From important discussions about transportation funding to celebrating Women’s History Month, here’s everything you need to know. Let’s dive in!

Wheel Tax Vote: What You Should Know

The Fitchburg Common Council is considering an annual vehicle registration fee at its April 8, 2025, meeting. This follows an unsuccessful referendum last fall as city leaders explore new revenue sources to support Fitchburg’s growing needs.

Here’s what you need to know:

✅ The fee would go into a separate account specifically for transportation projects.

✅ It is NOT required to fund the city’s overall budget.

✅ If passed, it would apply to vehicle registrations expiring in August 2025 or later.

✅ The proposed fee is $40 per year and could generate $1 million for our city’s roads, bike paths, and transit infrastructure.

Fitchburg wouldn’t be alone, many Wisconsin municipalities have already implemented similar fees. The Common Council will vote on April 8, so stay informed and let your voice be heard! More details can be found here.

Women’s History Month Resolution: Honoring Women’s Leadership

March is Women’s History Month, and I’m proud to be a co-sponsor of the Mayoral Proclamation recognizing the contributions of women in leadership.

Alongside Alders Wheeler, Dantzler Jr., Allen, Gerhardt, Jetzer, and Mayor Arata-Fratta, we reaffirmed the need to protect and advance women’s rights. Celebrating the past, recognizing the present, and working toward a more equitable future, this is what Women’s History Month is all about.

Protecting Federal Funding for Our Community

I’m also co-sponsoring a resolution urging the federal government to continue its long-standing tradition of funding key initiatives that strengthen our nation. Cutting federal funding would have direct consequences for Fitchburg residents, impacting everything from infrastructure to essential public services. Stay tuned for updates as we advocate for a strong, well-funded community!
